Allegiant – Veronica Roth (Divergent #3)
What if your whole world was a lie?
The thrillingly dark conclusion to the No. 1 New York Times bestselling DIVERGENT trilogy.
What if a single revelation – like a single choice – changed everything?
What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected?
The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered – fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.
But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature – and of herself – while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice and love.
Told from a riveting dual perspective, Allegiant, by #1 New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth, brings the Divergent series to a powerful conclusion while revealing the secrets of the dystopian world that has captivated millions of readers in Divergent and Insurgent.
Many of us have been reading (and watching) the Divergent series for the last few years as its gained popularity, but most are just getting on the band wagon to reading the books! Some may even be reading the books AFTER watching the movie (gasp), however I am here to tell you READ THE BOOK FIRST!!
Why you ask?
- You want to know the back story. There is always things that are missed when making a book into the movie, and I feel people may not understand all of Tris’ choices if they haven’t read the book and fully understand the character.
- You want to see Fours point of view. I know the movie will do its best to show both sides, but in the book you get to hear Fours side of the story from him! This is again important in understanding why choices are made when they are.
- Understanding the world before you see it. This may just be a personal preference but I like to discover the world they are in on my own before I see any visuals of it. Some times I am way off and sometimes quite close (my image of a dystopian Chicago from the first 2 books/movies was quite close actually)
- Lastly, you want to READ the ending! This is VERY important as this book has a huge twist at the end (don’t worry, no spoilers) but I think its important to read what happens and feel it from the characters perspective vs. movie perspective.
Now the last book is broken up into 2 movies (as usual in YA book adaptations no a days it seems) so you wont see the ending until March 2017, but if your like me you will probably be re-reading the book next year this time again anyways to remind you of what happened! I know I’ll be reading it again before this first part comes out, and then again next year!
So this is my challenge to all of you. READ THE BOOK FIRST! And for anyone who takes this challenge and reads it for the first time PLEASE comment and let me know what you think, how you felt! Anyone who’s already read it I suggest re-reading as a refresher.
I will be posting a comparison of the book vs. movie when it comes out, so watch for that coming in March!
